Crypto Profit Calculator

Crypto exchanges charge a percentage on each side rather than a flat commission, so fees scale with position size. Enter your entry, exit, quantity and fee rate to see net profit, total fees paid, and the exit price that actually breaks you even.

Why percentage fees change the calculation

A stock broker charging $1 a trade costs the same whether you buy $500 or $50,000. An exchange charging 0.1% a side costs $1 on the first and $100 on the second. Fees stop being a rounding error and become a fixed percentage drag on every round trip — 0.2% in the default, before the price has moved at all.

That is why the break-even exit here is not simply your entry price. You need the exit high enough to cover the fee on the way in and the fee on the way out. At 0.1% a side, that is roughly 0.2% above entry; at 0.5% a side — not unusual on smaller exchanges or with instant-buy features — it is over 1%.

Maker versus taker

Most exchanges charge less for orders that add liquidity (maker, a resting limit order) than for orders that remove it (taker, a market order). The gap is often 2–5x. If you are trading frequently, switching from market orders to limit orders can cut your total fee bill more than any change in strategy will. Type your actual taker rate here rather than the headline rate on the fee page, which is usually the best-tier maker rate.

What is not in this number

Network fees for moving coins on-chain, withdrawal fees, and — if you are trading perpetuals rather than spot — funding payments, which accrue every few hours and can dwarf trading fees on a position held for weeks. Spot spread is also excluded: on illiquid pairs the difference between the price shown and the price filled is frequently larger than the commission.

Frequency is the real cost

0.2% a round trip sounds trivial. Twenty round trips a month is 4%; a year of that is roughly half your capital paid in fees, before a single losing trade. The trading fee calculator works out the annual drag directly, and the number surprises most people who see it for the first time.

One number worth carrying into this market

US consumers reported $5.7bn lost to investment scams in 2024, the largest single fraud category the FTC tracks.[1] The arithmetic on this page assumes the position is real; that is the assumption worth checking first.

The number is the easy part

Everything above is arithmetic, and anyone opening this page gets the same answer. What no calculator can settle is whether you took the trade on these terms, or are describing — afterwards — the version of it that worked out.

That is what a trade recorder is for: the trade committed before it resolves, timestamped and sealed on the spot, on a Merkle-anchored log a stranger can check without kappi's cooperation. The plan you typed here stops being a plan you remember having. $15/month, no free tier.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate crypto profit after fees?

Subtract the buy fee from your cost basis calculation and the sell fee from proceeds. With a percentage fee on each side, total fees are roughly twice the rate times the position value.

What price do I need to break even on a crypto trade?

Slightly above your entry — enough to cover both fees. At 0.1% per side you need about 0.2% above entry just to be level.

Are maker and taker fees different?

Usually yes, often by several times. Limit orders that rest on the book generally pay the lower maker rate; market orders pay the taker rate. Use your actual taker rate here.

Does this include funding rates on perpetuals?

No. This calculates a spot round trip. Funding on perpetual futures accrues separately every few hours and can exceed trading fees on longer holds.
